Two-Day Workshop: Seaweed Harvesting!

Spend a morning with Daily Acts at the shore! In this workshop, we’ll get a salty taste of harvesting this sustainable sea resource! The workshop begins with an evening lecture covering the nuts n’ bolts, safety, and the whys and hows of environmentally sound and savvy seaweed collection!

Heidi Herrmann is an agriculture instructor at SRJC, an avid seaweed harvester, and owner of Strong Arm Farms in Sebastopol. Once we hit the coast, she will explain how to sustainably collect this nutritious sea vegetable, including how to allow for vegetative regrowth, and how to identify varieties like Wakame, Kombu, Bladderwrack, and the abundant and protein-rich Nori. We’ll explain everything from concerns of pollutants and protecting our marine coastlines, to the health benefits of seaweed. This evening and early morning will be chock full of information about this incredible, age-old food and fuel of the future!
